The New Jersey Devils have acquired goaltender Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames in exchange for defenceman Kevin Bahl and a 2025 first-round draft pick.

The Flames have also retained $1.875 million of Markstrom’s annual cap hit.

On June 11, TFP reported the two sides were still hammering away at a trade with the aim to finalize it before the NHL Draft.

“Today’s trade demonstrates our focus on the infusion of young talented players into our roster as well as acquiring important draft capital, while maintaining our commitment as a playoff competitive team,” said Flames GM Craig Conroy. “We thank Jacob for his professionalism and understanding of our decision to make this trade now and at this stage in his career.”

Markstrom, 34, agreed to waive his no-movement clause during the season and accept a trade to New Jersey, but the move fell through, at the time. He has two years left on his contract and comes with a $6 million salary cap hit.

Markstrom was ranked No.2 on the TFP Summer Trade Watch List.

In 48 games with the Flames this past season, Markstrom posted a 23-23-2 record along with a 2.78 goals-against-average, a .905 save percentage and two shutouts.

Bahl, 23, has one more year remaining on his contract.

In 82 games with the Devils this past season, Bahl tallied one goal and 10 assists for 11 points, along with 82 penalty minutes.
