The Ottawa Senators are looking to add a mid-six forward to their lineup and appear to be zeroing in on a couple of options as they continue to scour the trade market.

According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen, the Senators are one of the teams interested in Seattle Kraken forward Brandon Tanev, whom they expressed interest in over last summer.

Several other teams are also eyeing Tanev, who is playing on an expiring contract and comes with a $3.5 million salary cap hit. He also owns a 10-team no-trade list as part of his deal.

In addition to Tanev, the Senators are also believed to have interest in Chicago Blackhawks forward Ryan Donato, who is also on an expiring deal and owns a $2 million cap hit.

Tanev is listed among the players on the TFP Trade Watch List.

During a guest appearance on the Coming In Hot podcast in Ottawa, TFP’s David Pagnotta indicated that the Senators are in the market for a top-six forward and a top-four defenceman, and noted that GM Steve Staios has been exploring his options.

The Senators have also shown interest in Vancouver Canucks star centre Elias Pettersson, but it is unclear if those discussions continue.

Staios has little salary cap space to work with, though, and might need to move out a player off his roster if he decides to add to his lineup.

In 51 games with the Kraken so far this season, Tanev has registered eight goals and seven assists for 15 points.
