The Chicago Blackhawks started listening to inquiries on Seth Jones earlier in the season and the veteran defenceman and his agent are helping the process in an attempt to get a deal done by the March 7 trade deadline.
As TFP’s David Pagnotta first reported in January, Jones is open to a move and would be willing to waive his no-movement clause. He wrote that Jones “would also be open to a change of scenery for the right environment.”
On Friday, Jones admitted that he wants to be moved to a Stanley Cup contender and “a team that’s not in a rebuild, that has pieces already to it, that’s ready to go.”
Jones, 30, has four more seasons remaining on his contract after this season and comes with a $9.5 million salary cap hit, some of which the Blackhawks are willing to retain on to help facilitate a trade.
He currently ranks within the top-10 of the TFP Trade Watch List.
“I’ve been here the last four years, through probably the darkest times the Blackhawks have seen in a while,” Jones said. “I think things are moving up and moving forward, but my timeline might be different than Kyle and Norm’s and the Blackhawks’. It’s nothing against anybody; I’m not holding it against anybody, what they decided to do here. But sometimes it’s not in everyone’s plans.”
Seth Jones discussed the trade possibility more today. He said this idea has been "thrown around" by him and his agent for a while, but they want to "push the needle a little bit" now.

The Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche are among the teams reportedly interested in Jones, though other clubs are surely to have inquired about his availability.
