TRADE WATCH LIST 2024
TOP 35

aS OF February 29, 2024 | 10:30pm ET

The 2023-24 NHL Trade Deadline arrives on Friday, March 8, 2023 at 3pm ET.

As we do every season, TFP has outlined some of the top names reportedly available according to various media reports and our own league-wide sources. Last season, 42 players listed came off the board. In 2022, 27 names moved teams.

This page will be updated frequently and TFP’s panel of experts will outline each player’s value. Some players may climb or fall off the list, while others may be added.

NOTE: Teams linked to players are based off various media reports and internal sources.

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $6M

1. Jake Guentzel, LW - Pittsburgh Penguins

As TFP’s David Pagnotta first reported, Jake Guentzel is not expected to address his expiring contract until after the season. Guentzel’s agent Ben Hankinson later confirmed that they are likely to wait to see the direction of the team. Penguins GM Kyle Dubas recently ackwnoledged his team needs to get younger, and we know Guentzel doesn’t want to go through a rebuild. He’s on track to return from injury on Mar. 10, and teams are going to push, but the price is high.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

Edmonton, Vancouver, Colorado, Carolina, Vegas, Detroit, Florida

AGE: 26
CAP HIT: $4.95M

2. Noah Hanifin, LD - Calgary Flames

Hanifin held off signing an eight-year extension with Calgary at the start of the season worth a reported $7.5M per season. The Flames reapproached him around the New Year, but no deal yet. Teams know what he wants long-term, which might not help trade negotiations from Calgary’s perspective. Teams are calling and the expectation now is that he will be traded.

Teams reportedly Linked:

New Jersey, Boston, Tampa Bay, Florida, Colorado, Toronto

AGE: 34
CAP HIT: $5.825M

3. Adam Henrique, C/LW - Anaheim Ducks

Henrique’s name is no stranger to the Trade Watch List. He’s now in the final year of his contract and is a leading candidate to be moved. Teams looking for a versatile forward to add to their mid-six are calling, and a move could be made in advance of the deadline. The Ducks could eat up to half of his contract.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Colorado, Carolina, New Jersey, NY Rangers, Edmonton, NY Islanders, Boston

AGE: 32
CAP HIT: $5M

4. Vladimir Tarasenko, RW - Ottawa Senators

Tarasenko has a full no-trade clause and will have a say in where he ends up. He is open to a move, and as TFP’s David Pagnotta reported on Feb. 29, he will waive his NTC for a Stanley Cup contender. The Sens, who want a second-round pick for Tarasenko, will likely retain on part of his $5M contract.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Florida, Colorado, Tampa Bay, Dallas, Carolina, Vegas

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $5M

5. Juuse Saros, G - Nashville Predators

The Predators are actively listening (instead of actively shopping) Saros, who has one more year left on his contract. As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported, Saros wants Ilya Sorokin money on his next deal and that isn’t happening in Nashville. The Predators don’t have to move him by the deadline, but if they don’t, expect talks to heat up in the summer

Teams Reportedly Linked:

New Jersey, Colorado, Ottawa, Los Angeles

AGE: 28
CAP HIT: $3M

6. Anthony Duclair, RW - San Jose Sharks

Duclair is one of four pending UFA forwards on San Jose’s roster that will attract trade interest between now and the deadline. He has a solid cap hit and helped the Florida Panthers reach the Stanley Cup Final last season.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Edmonton, Colorado, Vegas, NY Rangers, Toronto, Vegas

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $3.9M

7. Matt Dumba, RD - Arizona Coyotes

Dumba comes in at a reasonable cap hit this season and with the Coyotes falling further from wildcard contention, he is a solid candidate to be moved ahead of the deadline. Arizona can retain on his deal, if needed, to help facilitate a trade.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

Dallas, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Edmonton, Boston

AGE: 30
CAP HIT: $6.5M

8. Colton Parayko, RD - St. Louis Blues

Blues GM Doug Armstrong isn’t afraid to make bold moves and Parayko’s name swirled around the trade winds this time last year leading up to the trade deadline. Parayko has a full NTC and six more years left on his contract. It’ll take a big deal, and his approval, to make something happen, but word is the Blues are exploring their options.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Calgary, Toronto

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $2.65M

9. Sean Walker, RD/LD - Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers still haven’t started formal contract negotiations at the time of this update with Walker’s camp, but both sides know where the other stands ($4M-$4.5M AAV from Philly, $5M-$5.5M from Walker’s side). Walker, who can become a UFA this July, is an attractive piece to a Cup contender - even with the Flyers in the middle of the playoffs chase.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Toronto, Edmonton, Tampa Bay, New Jersey, Colorado, Dallas

AGE: 33
CAP HIT: $6M

10. Jacob Markstrom, G - Calgary Flames

Teams have called and the Flames are listening. Markstrom has a full NMC and as TFP’s David Pagnotta reported on Feb. 9, he would be willing to waive for the Devils. While a trade was almost done, New Jersey is expected to circle back. We’ll see if they can get to the finish line.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

New Jersey, Carolina

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $3.65M

11. Frank Vatrano, RW - Anaheim Ducks

Vatrano has attracted plenty of interest from contenders looking for more goal-scoring. He is on pace for a career-year offensively and is signed through the 2024-25 campaign. His price tag will be high and the Ducks are in no rush to move him, but teams will continue to call.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Detroit, NY Islanders, NY Rangers, Colorado, Toronto, Carolina

AGE: 33
CAP HIT: $3.85M

12. Jake Allen, G - Montreal Canadiens

Allen has another year left on his contract and has a seven-team no-trade list. The Canadiens aren’t itching to move him, but are definitely open to it if a team is willing to pay the price.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Carolina, Edmonton, New Jersey, Colorado

AGE: 25
CAP HIT: $4.6M

13. Jakob Chychrun, LD - Ottawa Senators

It wouldn’t be a trade deadline without Chychrun on the Trade Watch List. Only now, he’s in Ottawa. Sens GM Steve Staios tried to calm the public waters, but as TFP’s David Pagnotta reported on Jan. 15, the Senators are listening and willing to consider trading him.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Washington, Calgary, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Detroit

AGE: 22
CAP HIT: $2.1M

14. Kaapo Kakko, RW - New York Rangers

The Rangers are looking for upgrades and have been dangling Kakko as trade bait. This move may not result in a rental player coming back to Manhattan, as this could evolve into a larger “hockey trade,” but the Rangers are exploring and Kakko’s name is out there.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

Buffalo, Minnesota, Anaheim

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $2.75M

15. Ilya Lyubushkin, RD - Anaheim Ducks

Traded to Toronto

Lyubushkin is an affordable third-pair defenceman for contenders that want a player with some bite. He is expected to be moved by the deadline.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Toronto, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Edmonton, Boston, Dallas

AGE: 25
CAP HIT: $2.5M

16. Casey Mittelstadt, C - Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres are taking calls on Mittelstadt, who can become an RFA this July. As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported, the Sabres aren’t actively trying to trade him but would be interested in a talent-for-talent swap and not future assets. While this could be a move that happens in the summer, momentum could build between the time of this update and deadline day.

Teams reportedly Linked:

TBD

AGE: 33
CAP HIT: $5.5M

17. Jordan Eberle, RW - Seattle Kraken

Seattle is still in the playoff race, but if they start to dip further away from a wildcard spot, GM Ron Francis will listen. Eberle, who is in the final year of his deal, has drawn interest, and the Kraken could retain on his deal, but Seattle is trying to sign him to an extension. Failing that, they’ll seriously entertain moving him. He also has a 16-team no-trade list.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

Edmonton, NY Islanders, Toronto, Florida, Los Angeles

AGE: 34
CAP HIT: $8M

18. Logan Couture, C - San Jose Sharks

The Sharks are willing to listen on their captain, as TFP’s David Pagnotta first reported and confirmed on NHL Network on Feb. 15. He has three more years on his contract and is willing to expand the list of teams on his trade list. However, Couture is injured and it could jeopardize his season. If that’s the case, expect talks to pick up in the off-season.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Nashville, Ottawa, Buffalo

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $4.5M

19. Alexander Wennberg, C - Seattle Kraken

Wennberg is in a similar situation to that of Eberle. If the Kraken dip, they’ll look to move him ahead of the deadline. And with the centre rental market fairly thin, Seattle could take advantage of that and generate a solid return from a contender looking for help up the middle.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

Boston, Colorado, Carolina, NY Rangers

AGE: 28
CAP HIT: $5.8M

20. Pavel Buchnevich, LW/RW - St. Louis Blues

Buchnevich has another year left on his contract and owns a 12-team no-trade list. The Blues are listening, but are not in a rush to trade him. Contenders looking for scoring punch will be calling and the price tag will likely include a first-round pick.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

Vegas, Los Angeles, Edmonton, Carolina, Vancouver

AGE: 33
CAP HIT: $3.5M

21. David Savard, RD - Montreal Canadiens

For teams looking to add a strong, reliable defender to their blueline, Savard checks a lot of boxes. He has another year left on his contract and could bolster a Cup contender’s blueline for two runs.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Toronto, Tampa Bay, Dallas, Edmonton, Colorado, Boston

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $5.7M

22. Anthony Mantha, LW - Washington Capitals

The Capitals have been trying to move Mantha since last season. His goal-scoring game has come alive, but his $5.7M cap hit has kept teams away. He’s in the final year of his contract and does not own any no-trade protection. The Capitals will need to retain to make a move happen.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

Edmonton, Vegas, Colorado

AGE: 30
CAP HIT: $1.75M

23. Joel Edmundson, LD/RD - Washington Capitals

The Capitals are dipping and Edmundson is someone teams have on their radars. He’s a UFA in July and comes with a $1.75M cap hit (Montreal retained the other half). He could be a very affordable option for a cap-strapped team and the Capitals could eat some of his current deal to make him that much more financially appealing.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Edmonton, Colorado, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Boston

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $3M

24. Scott Laughton, C/LW - Philadelphia Flyers

Laughton is in the third year of a five-year, $15M contract and has attracted interest dating back to last summer. The Flyers rejected a late first-round draft pick for him before the 2023 NHL Draft, and the price tag is believed to be around the same now. Teams are calling and Philly is listening.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

Toronto, Edmonton, Buffalo, Colorado

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $2.5M

25. Alexander Barabanov, LW - San Jose Sharks

The Sharks like Barabanov, who is eligible to become a UFA in July, but his ask might be too high for their liking. San Jose has been exploring the market and trying to trade him, but the word is the price tag has been high. We’ll see if they adjust by deadline day.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Edmonton, Colorado, Florida, Tampa Bay

AGE: 27
CAP HIT: $2.75M

26. Kaapo Kahkonen, G - San Jose Sharks

Kahkonen is set to become a UFA this summer and comes with a decent cap hit. Teams looking for goaltending depth will be asking and the price tag might not be overly high given the market for goalies isn’t, either.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

Carolina, New Jersey, Colorado

AGE: 32
CAP HIT: $5.3M

27. Jason Zucker, RW/LW - Arizona Coyotes

The Coyotes are likely going to need to eat some of his $5.3M cap hit in order to make a trade work, but teams looking for depth scoring in their bottom-six will have some interest. He’s a UFA this summer and does not own any no-trade protection.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

TBD

AGE: 29
CAP HIT: $5.4M

28. Elvis Merzlikins, G - Columbus Blue Jackets

Reports surfaced in December that Merzlikins and the Blue Jackets could be heading for a divorce. He has since confirmed the mutual desire to explore a move. He has a 10-team no-trade list and three more years left on his contract, and a change of scenery could see him reach the potential many a few years ago believed he could hit.

Teams reportedly Linked:

New Jersey, Buffalo

AGE: 28
CAP HIT: $4.75M

29. Victor Olofsson, RW/LW - Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres are actively looking to move Olofsson by the deadline, but his cap hit is an issue, which puts him on the Bubble List. Buffalo will have to retain on his deal to accommodate a trade, something they seem willing to do on an expiring contract.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

Colorado

AGE: 32
CAP HIT: $4.5M

30. Tyson Barrie, RD - Nashville Predators

Barrie wants a change of scenery and the Predators are willing to give it to him, but Nashville is not interested in retaining any of his contract in a trade. That could change, however, if the Preds are too far back of a playoff spot by deadline day.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Tampa Bay, Dallas

AGE: 23
CAP HIT: $925,000

31. Jonatan Berggren, LW - Detroit Red Wings

As TFP’s David Pagnotta first reported in early-December, the Red Wings have been dangling Berggren as trade bait. Berggren recently rejected an extension pitched by Detroit and seems to prefer a change of scenery. We’ll see if Detroit can make that happen.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Montreal, Ottawa, Anaheim, Arizona, Calgary

AGE: 35
CAP HIT: $3.25M

32. Erik Johnson, RD - Buffalo Sabres

Johnson is more likely to be moved closer to Deadline Day, according to TFP’s David Pagnotta, and the Sabres plan on consulting with him on any trade they try to complete, even though he does not own any no-trade protection. Cup contenders will have interest.

Teams Reportedly Linked:

TBD

AGE: 23
CAP HIT: $2.6M

33. Adam Boqvist, RD - Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets have been looking to move one of their blueliners since the start of the season and Boqvist seems to have the most value. He has another year on his contract and will remain controllable.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Edmonton, Calgary, Ottawa, Minnesota

AGE: 30
CAP HIT: $6.4M

34. John Gibson, G - Anaheim Ducks

Here we go, again. Gibson’s name is out there for another trade deadline, but that doesn’t mean he’ll get moved. He has some no-trade protection with a 10-team no-trade list, and three more years left on his contract.

Teams reportedly Linked:

New Jersey, Carolina, Buffalo

AGE: 22
CAP HIT: $863,333

35. Philip Broberg, LD - Edmonton Oilers

Broberg wants an opportunity to play full time NHL minutes and he isn’t getting that right now with the Edmonton Oilers, who are willing to trade him in the right deal. Will Broberg be packaged for an upgrade, or used as a piece to take on a heavy contract?

Teams reportedly Linked:

Anaheim, Philadelphia, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Calgary

BUBBLE LIST

AGE: 30
CAP HIT: $3.25M

Cody Ceci, RD - Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers are looking to go big-game hunting ahead of the deadline, but with limited salary cap space, someone’s gotta go. Ceci could be a casualty of the cap and without any no-trade protection, the Oilers could flip him in a larger deal to improve the roster in other areas, as well as the blueline.

AGE: 28
CAP HIT: $1.675M

Tony DeAngelo, LD - Carolina Hurricanes

DeAngelo dropped to the Bubble List after the Hurricanes have remained unsuccessful in trying to move him. He’s still up for grabs and could be swapped out to make the cap work if the Hurricanes made another addition elsewhere in the lineup.

AGE: 24
CAP HIT: $2.1M

Morgan Frost, C - Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers have recently been engaged in trade talks involving Frost, though it does not appear that a move is imminent at the time of this update. However, Philadelphia has a willingness to move Frost in a “hockey trade” if the right move presents itself.

AGE: 34
CAP HIT: $4.5M

Mike Hoffman, RW - San Jose Sharks

Like Duclair, Hoffman will draw interest from teams trying to acquire secondary scoring for a playoff run. With a larger cap hit, though, San Jose might need to retain part of his contract or take back a contract to facilitate a trade.

AGE: 32
CAP HIT: $6.5M

Torey Krug, LD - St. Louis Blues

Like Parayko, Krug’s name will keep surfacing leading up to the trade deadline. He has a full no-trade clause, which he used to prevent a move to Philadelphia last summer. But will the Blues try to apply more pressure again this year in hopes of shaking up their roster? We shall see.

AGE: 27
CAP HIT: $4.725M

Ivan Provorov, LD - Columbus Blue Jackets

The Blue Jackets continue to listen on Provorov, who has another year left on his contract, even after their GM change. He comes at a solid cap hit, but maybe Columbus would be willing to eat some of that hit to maximize a return. There is interest from contending teams exploring beyond the rental market.

AGE: 30
CAP HIT$5M

Rickard Rakell, RW/LW - Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins are willing to listen on almost anyone at this point, even as they try to chase a wildcard spot in the East, and Rakell’s name has started to make the rounds. He’s four more years left on his contract and owns an eight-team no-trade list. It won’t be an easy move for the Pens to make, but it could be an intriguing one.

AGE: 22
CAP HIT: $796,667

Nick Robertson, LW/RW - Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs have limited young assets they’re willing to move, but it seems Robertson could be one piece they are dangling as GM Brad Treliving tries to find upgrades ahead of the deadline. Robertson is an RFA this summer.

AGE: 32
CAP HIT: $5M

Reilly Smith, LW/RW - Pittsburgh Penguins

Smith hasn’t exactly worked out in Pittsburgh and word on the street is he would be open to a move. He has another year left on his contract and owns a 10-team no-trade list. If the Penguins move him, they’d likely have another deal in place to replace him on the roster.

AGE: 31
CAP HIT: $4.25M

Tyler Toffoli, RW - New Jersey Devils

The Devils would like to sign Toffoli to a new deal, as he’s playing on an expiring contract, but if they fall back from playoff contention by deadline day, they will consider moving him. Los Angeles has already expressed their interest, and other teams are poking around, as well.

AGE: 22
CAP HIT: $5.75M

Trevor Zegras, C/LW - Anaheim Ducks

Zegras’ name has been floating around since the summer, according to TFP’s David Pagnotta, and the Ducks are willing to entertain calls. A move before the deadline might be far fetched, but still possible. More likely, this could be a major trade that occurs in the off-season.

PLAYERS OFF THE BOARD

1. Elias Lindholm, C - Calgary Flames

Traded to Vancouver

Unless Lindholm changes his contract demands or the Flames decide to accept a $9M+ AAV on a long-term deal, an extension is unlikely and Calgary GM Craig Conroy will try to maximize a return for the top forward in the trade market. Teams have been reaching out and talks could escalate after All-Star Weekend.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Colorado, Boston, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Carolina, Washington

3. Chris Tanev, RD - Calgary Flames

Traded to dallas

Tanev can become a UFA this summer and is another player the Flames may have to move instead of risk losing for nothing in July. There is plenty of interest and that will increase leading up to the deadline, and the expectation is he will be moved. Some teams are wondering if he’ll sign an extension with them, as well. Calgary wants a first-round pick for him; we’ll see if they get it.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Toronto, New Jersey, Vancouver, Tampa Bay, Ottawa, Dallas, Edmonton

8. Sean Monahan, C/RW - Montreal Canadiens

traded to winnipeg

Monahan rejoined the Habs prior to this season in hopes of rebounding and rejuvenating his game. Montreal explored re-signing him, but are moving ahead with an off-season promise to move him to a contender. He’s a UFA this summer and has drawn interest from teams in need of help up the middle.

Teams reportedly Linked:

Colorado, Winnipeg, NY Rangers, Toronto

(BUBBLE) Andrei Kuzmenko, LW/RW - Vancouver Canucks

Traded to Calgary

If the Canucks can find a suitor to take on his contract and replace him with a second-line player, that would be the ideal scenario for GM Patrik Allvin. Kuzmenko has another year left on his contract and comes with a $5.5M cap hit. It may be difficult to move ahead of the deadline, but the Canucks are exploring their options.
