The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed restricted free agent forward Nick Robertson to a one-year, $875,000 contract and sources tell TFP the team has more moves on the horizon.

Robertson, who turns 23 on Sept. 11, had requested a trade at the start of the off-season and was holding out for a move to be made. But with training camps set to open across the NHL next week, Robertson decided to agree to a one-year deal and push for a full-time role on the club.

In 56 games with the Maple Leafs last season, Robertson registered 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points.

However, multiple sources have confirmed to TFP that the Leafs have more “irons in the fire,” as one league source put it, and GM Brad Treliving has been working the trade lines, as well.

As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported earlier this month, the Maple Leafs have expressed interest in unrestricted free agent left wing Max Pacioretty.

Pacioretty, 35, has generated interest from multiple clubs, but a deal with the Leafs is believed to be imminent, according to sources.

The Maple Leafs have already signed forward Steven Lorentz to a professional tryout and could add Pacioretty on a PTO before giving him a formal one-year contract once they clear the necessary cap space.

With just over $400,000 in salary cap space after signing Robertson, however, Treliving has been exploring the trade market in an attempt to free up additional cap space. Moving Robertson is still a possibility, while defenceman Connor Timmins, who comes with a $1.1 million salary cap hit, is believed to be on the trade block.

Pacioretty registered four goals and 19 assists for 23 goals in 47 games last season with the Washington Capitals.
