With a surplus of forwards on the roster, the Toronto Maple Leafs continue to explore the trade market as training camp plugs along ahead of the 2024-25 regular-season.

The Maple Leafs are currently over the $88 million salary cap by just over $1.069 million, according to PuckPedia, and GM Brad Treliving is evaluating his options both on the trade front and LTIR options to start the season.

As previously reported, the Maple Leafs have made forward Nick Robertson and defenceman Conor Timmins available for trade.

Robertson signed a one-year, $875,000 contract before camp began, while Timmins has a $1.1 million cap hit this season – he would need to clear waivers before being sent down to the AHL, or get claimed by another club, and that alone would get Toronto under the cap.

However, the Leafs are also believed to be willing to take trade inquiries on veteran forward Calle Jarnkrok, who has a 10-team no-trade list and is under contract through the end of next season.

Jarnkrok, currently day-to-day with a lower body injury, comes with a $2.1 million cap hit. He is set to earn $2.2 million in actual salary this season and $2 million in salary next season.

A move is not imminent, though some teams in need of a versatile bottom-six forward may pursue Jarnkrok, who can play both centre and the wing.

In 52 games with the Maple Leafs last season, Jarnkrok registered 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points. He scored a career-high 20 goals in 73 games with the Leafs in 2022-23.
