With training camps set to open in a couple of weeks, the Calgary Flames appear open for business as GM Craig Conroy is willing to entertain trade inquiries on a number of his veteran players.

As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported on NHL Network last week, the Flames have taken calls on such players as defencemen Mackenzie Weegar and Rasmus Andersson, and centre Nazem Kadri this off-season.

Pagnotta first reported in late-June prior to the NHL Draft that Kadri was available and the Flames were looking to move him. He has five-years remaining on his contract, which comes with a $7 million cap hit, and owns a no-movement clause this season and next.

The belief is Kadri is willing to waive his NMC for the right environment, though his preference may be to return to the East Coast.

Andersson, 27, has two years left on his contract, which comes with a $4.5 million salary cap hit and a six-team no-trade list. With plenty of teams interested in bolstering their blueline, moving Andersson this season may be likely.

Weegar, 30, has seven years remaining on his deal and owns a full no-trade clause for the next three seasons. His $6.25 million cap hit is attractive to several clubs, but the Flames also value his services and moving him would take a significant return, despite teams already showing interest.

As Pagnotta reported, the St. Louis Blues were among the teams interested in Weegar around the NHL Draft but a trade never materialized.

The Flames have not yet declared entering a full rebuild, but if the club fails to gain momentum towards a playoff spot this season, the moves made during the 2024-25 campaign could push them in that direction. With Kadri and Andersson both open to being moved, per sources, packages acquired for both would reinforce the decision to retool for the future.
