The Boston Bruins remain in a tough contract negotiation with restricted free agent goaltender Jeremy Swayman and it appears things are starting to get heated.

Bruins GM Don Sweeney acknowledged on Monday while speaking with the media that he has “consistent communication with (Swayman’s) representative, but we still have a gap to bridge.”

Bruins President Cam Neely unofficially revealed the team’s offer, believed to be eight-years worth $8 million per season.

Swayman, who is not attending Boston’s training camp as he and the Bruins try to hammer out a new contract, is believed to be asking for a higher AAV on an eight-year deal.

Neely admitted to being surprised by Swayman’s contract demands.

“I don’t want to get into the weeds with what his ask is, but I know that I have 64 million reasons why I’d be playing right now,” Neely said.

“I’ve asked (Swayman) flat out if he wants to play here and he does. I believe they’ll get a deal done. Unfortunately, it’s not done today.”

In 44 games with the Bruins last season, Swayman posted a 25-10-8 record with a 2.53 goals-against-average, a .916 save percentage and three shutouts.
