REPORT: DAHLIN NEARING MEGA EXTENSION WITH SABRES
Rasmus Dahlin, defenceman
The Buffalo Sabres and star defenceman Rasmus Dahlin are believed to be inching towards a major eight-year contract extension.
According to the After The Whistle podcast with former Sabres Andrew Peters and Craig Rivet, Dahlin is nearing a long-term, eight-year extension worth $10.5 million per season.
It had been reported in June by multiple outlets that an eight-year extension was near, but thus far an official announcement has not yet been made.
“The biggest question mark, why they haven’t announced it, if this is done,” Peters said, adding that he’s been told the average annual value of $10.5 million “I’ve heard from a reliable source.”
Dahlin, 23, is in the final year of a three-year, $18 million contract. He will earn an actual salary of $7.2 million this season.
If a deal is near, the Sabres could be waiting to announce an extension at the start of training camp later this month. However, a representative from Dahlin’s camp told TFP the report was “not accurate” when contacted on Wednesday but would not elaborate.
In 78 games with the Sabres last season, Dahlin registered career highs in goals (15), assists (58), points (73), plus/minus (+12) and penalty minutes (92). He finished eighth in Norris Trophy voting.
