The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenceman Jake McCabe to a five-year, $23.5 million contract, which includes some deferred salary that makes his average annual value of the contract is $4.51 million.
After contract talks hit the backburner once the season got underway, Leafs GM Brad Treliving and McCabe’s agent Brian Bartlett got back to work on the deal over the weekend and “hammered out McCabe’s new five-year deal,” according to TFP’s Pagnotta.
McCabe, 31, will earn $6 million in total salary and signing bonuses in the first year of his extension. He will make $5.5 million in the second year, $4.8 million in the third year, and $3.6 million in each of the final two years of the deal – though there is no salary bonus payout in the fifth year.
Part of McCabe’s total earnings in the second and third years of the deal are being deferred.
McCabe has posted three assists in nine games with the Maple Leafs during the 2024-25 season. The Eau Claire, WI native has accumulated 33 goals and 122 assists for 155 points in 586 career regular-season NHL games with the Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks and Buffalo Sabres.
He was originally drafted by Buffalo in the second round (44th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
