ISLES TO LOOK INTERNALLY AFTER DUCLAIR INJURY

The New York Islanders suffered a blow to their lineup following Saturday’s shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens when off-season signing Anthony Duclair was lost to injury.

On Monday, Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello told local reporters Duclair will be out “long-term” but noted the injury is not season-ending. A clearer timeline is expected to be known tomorrow after Duclair and the team conduct further testing.

Duclair, 29, signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Islanders on July 1 and owns a full no-trade clause this season and next season.

As reported by Anthony Gross of New York Newsday, the Islanders are expected to call up a player from their AHL affiliate in Bridgeport to replace Duclair in the lineup.

One player who remains on a PTO is veteran Matt Martin, though Lamoriello indicated he is not in the mix for a full contract at this time.

Martin, 35, picked up four goals and four assists, along with 43 penalty minutes, in 57 games with the Islanders last season.

With just under $228,000 in current cap space, as per PuckPedia, any acquisition from outside the organization may result in a roster player being moved out, and a trade does not appear to be imminent.
