TROUBA BLOCKING OUT THE TRADE CHATTER
Jacob Trouba, defenceman
Jacob Trouba has heard the noise before, dating back two off-seasons ago when his name first started popping up in trade speculation. That noise intensified this past summer when the New York Rangers were actively shopping him.
Now, as the Rangers push through a rough patch, losing three straight and five of their last 10 games, his name is out there once again.
During Monday’s edition of “The Latest” on TFP, David Pagnotta indicated that trade talk surrounding the Rangers and Jacob Trouba began to pick up over the weekend.
“Now, we had heard over the weekend and on Sunday that maybe they’re starting to make the rounds,” Pagnotta said. “They’re starting to explore the trade market a little bit. Curious as to what that may be.”
Monday morning, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman also reported that not only is Trouba available, but indicated veteran forward Chris Kreider is, as well.
Trouba, 30, has one more year remaining on his contract after this season and comes with an $8 million salary cap hit. He also owns a 15-team no-trade list as part of his deal – so, he will have some say as to what type of trade Rangers GM Chris Drury tries to make.
Asked Tuesday about the rumours, Trouba brushed off the noise when asked by beat reporter Arthur Staple.
“Part of the game,” Trouba said. “I learned that this summer, have to just block those things out.”
It is unclear which teams have engaged, or re-engaged, in trade talks with the Rangers over Trouba. It is also uncertain as to whether the Rangers would be willing to retain a portion of his contract, as they have all three salary retention slots available to them this season.
The Rangers have made it known they would like to shake up their roster, but if Drury finds the right deal remains to the seen.
The club is currently 12-7-1 and four points behind the Washington Capitals, with one game in hand, for third in the Metropolitan Division.
