The Boston Bruins are sitting at .500, a position they did not expect to be in at any point this season, and that has led to speculation over changes coming to the roster.

Bruins GM Don Sweeney is exploring the marketplace for a power forward that can score, and as reported during the “Saturday Headlines” segment on Hockey Night in Canada yesterday, Elliotte Friedman reported the team is looking to make a move and upgrade their lineup.

“They’ve definitely been out there trying to see if there’s something they can do to shake them up,” Friedman said. “There’s definitely a lot of intensity in Boston.”

The Bruins are under the salary cap and have some financial wiggle room, but any impact addition will likely result in a roster player being moved out.

Forwards Charlie Coyle, Morgan Geekie and Pavel Zacha have had disappointing starts to the season and could be candidates to be shipped out if Sweeney finds the right deal.

Coyle, 32, has another year left on his contract after this season. He owns a $5.25 million cap hit and comes with an eight-team no-trade list.

Zacha, 27, has two more seasons remaining on his contract, which includes a $4.75 million cap hit and a 10-team no-trade list this season.

It is unclear if the Bruins are closing in on a trade leading into the new week or whom Sweeney may be targeting, but the Bruins are clearly scouring the market for upgrades before their season gets away from them.
