The Calgary Flames have traded defenceman Nikita Zadorov to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round pick (previously acquired by Vancouver from Chicago on Nov. 28) and a 2026 third-round pick.

Zadorov, 28, has appeared in 21 games with the Flames this season, registering one goal, five assists and 23 penalty minutes.

“First, I’d like to thank Nikita for his commitment to the Flames and his professionalism through this process,” said Flames GM Craig Conroy.

“Our hockey operations group works every day to find opportunities that make our team better today and for the future. This trade provides us with important draft assets, cap space and the opportunity for another one of our young prospects to prove himself in the NHL.”

Zadorov formally requested a trade from Calgary earlier this month and while several teams expressed interest in him, the Canucks were able to acquire him without needing the Flames to retain any salary.

“Nikita is a big, strong and mobile two-way defenceman who will bring more physicality to our backend,” said Canucks GM Patrik Allvin. “We really like his size and reach and his addition to our blueline gives us more depth and better options moving forward.”
