The New Jersey Devils are expected to interview former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe for their coaching vacancy on Monday.
The Devils received permission from the Maple Leafs late last week to interview Keefe for their position after Interim Head Coach Travis Green signed a four-year contract with the Ottawa Senators.
Keefe, 43, was fired by Toronto last Thursday after the Maple Leafs were bounced from the playoffs in the first-round.
He coached the Maple Leafs to a 212-97-40 record in 349 regular-season games. The club recorded three consecutive 100-point seasons under Keefe, including a team-record 115-point season in 2021-22.
Speculation over New Jersey’s interest in Keefe began before the playoffs started, as TFP’s David Pagnotta first noted the Devils would pursue him if the Leafs let him go.
Former St. Louis Blues head coach Craig Berube, former Edmonton Oilers bench boss Jay Woodcroft and former Los Angeles Kings coach Todd McLellan are among the candidates believed to also be up for the position.
