With veteran sniper Tyler Toffoli prepared to test the free agent waters July 1 as an unrestricted free agent, two of his former teams are expected to come calling.

In his latest column on Saturday, TFP’s David Pagnotta reported the Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings are to clubs likely going after Toffoli as a free agent this summer.

Toffoli will not re-sign with the Winnipeg Jets, and some reports have linked the New Jersey Devils, the team that dealt him to Winnipeg prior to the trade deadline, but Pagnotta downplayed that during the “Monday Mix” podcast with co-host Anthony Di Marco.

“There was some talk of maybe suggestions that New Jersey would go after him and he’d want to go back. I don’t get that sense,” Pagnotta said. “I think he’s going to explore other options. I know LA and Vancouver tried to get him in the season, two former teams. I think they’re going to push for him hard.”

The Canucks and Kings expressed interest in trading for Toffoli prior to the March 8 trade deadline. Both clubs are going to try to add a scoring winger this summer and Toffoli is on the radar of each club.

With Kings winger Viktor Arvidsson expected to test the free agent waters, a spot could open up in Los Angeles’ mid-six. Toffoli is believed to have interest in exploring the possibility of returning to the Kings this off-season.

Several other teams will surely pursue Toffoli, as well, as clubs like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals are going to shop for a goal-scoring winger.

Toffoli, 32, registered 33 goals and 22 assists for 55 points in 79 games with the Devils and Jets this season.
