As the New York Rangers continue to navigate the trade waters ahead of Friday’s 3pm ET deadline, GM Chris Drury is considering a multitude of options.

Forward Reilly Smith has been scratched from the club’s last two games in preparation for a trade that could come as early as Tuesday. He is in the final year of his contract and is expected to be dealt this week.

As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio over the weekend, Chris Kreider’s name has continued to pop up in trade chatter, despite his current injury.

Citing two sources, Vincent Mercogliano of USA Today reported the Rangers remain “motivated to move” Kreider and if a deal can’t be ironed out by the deadline, a move in the summer is expected.

The Rangers made it known earlier in the season in a memo to the rest of the league that Kreider was available, and they are willing to entertain calls on him.

Kreider, 33, has two more years on his contract after this season and comes with a $6.5 million salary cap hit. He also owns a 15-team no-trade list as part of his deal, so he will have some say in where he ends up, if dealt.

It is unclear which teams have spoken with Rangers GM Chris Drury about Kreider, who remains on the IR with an undisclosed injury.

In 48 games with the Rangers so far this season, Kreider has registered 17 goals and four assists for 21 points.
