The Seattle Kraken have been actively engaged in trade talks with other teams about veteran forward Brandon Tanev, who is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
Tanev, 33, is in the final year of a six-year, $21 million contract, which also comes with a 10-team no-trade list.
Several teams have reportedly expressed interest in Tanev, including the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets, among others, and Seattle GM Ron Francis continues to entertain calls.
According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic, the Kraken are also willing retain up to 50 percent of Tanev’s $3.5 million cap hit to facilitate a trade and maximize a return.
Hearing that the Kraken are willing to eat 50 percent on Brandon Tanev’s $3.5M cap hit to help facilitate a deal. Which makes sense. Strong interest from both Cup contenders and bubble teams in the pending UFA winger.

Tanev, who ranks among the players on the TFP Trade Watch List, is one of a handful of Kraken players in play ahead of Friday’s 3pm ET trade deadline.
In addition to Tanev, the Kraken are taking calls on forwards Yanni Gourde, Oliver Bjorkstrand and Jaden Schwartz, and defenceman Jamie Oleksiak, among others.
