The Carolina Hurricanes have been linked to Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson for more than one year and it appears the two teams chatted again about a possible move ahead of the trade deadline.
Gibson, 31, is in the sixth season of an eight-year, $51.2 million contract and owns a 10-team no-trade list as part of his deal.
The Hurricanes and Ducks have chatted numerous times about a potential swap, and even with the Ducks willing to retain a portion of Gibson’s contract to help facilitate a trade, the clubs have not inched closer to a deal.
According to Pierre LeBrun, in his latest article for The Athletic, “Tulsky decided to not tweak his goaltending at the deadline” despite circling back on Gibson.
Tulsky acknowledged his faith in his goaltending tandem of Pyotr Kochetkov and Frederik Andersen, and while he may decide to check in on Gibson’s availability again this summer, he’s sticking with his duo for the time being.
“(Andersen has) been healthy and he’s playing well, and Pyotr has been playing the best hockey of his career,” Tulsky told LeBrun. “Between the two of them, we’re very comfortable where we are right now.”
