The Vancouver Canucks have been looking to add a scoring forward most of the season and their search seems to have escalated in the week leading up to Friday’s 3pm ET trade deadline.

As TFP and other outlets have reported this season, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin has been combing the market for an offensive forward to add to his roster and prefers to acquire one with term remaining on his contract as opposed to a short-term rental.

During yesterday’s “Saturday Headlines” segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman reiterated Vancouver’s desire to add up front.

“The Canucks have a situation where they’re looking to add to their forward group, whether it’s now or later,” he said.

While things can change, as it currently stands, Allvin and the Canucks are not expected to move centre Elias Pettersson, barring a significant offer too good to pass up by the deadline – something Friedman also acknowledged.

It is unclear whom the Canucks may be targeting, but the team has been linked to such players as Dylan Cozens and Alex Tuch of the Buffalo Sabres, Jared McCann of the Seattle Kraken and Trent Frederic of the Boston Bruins, among others, although Frederic is playing on an expiring contract.

The Canucks have over $9.3 million in current salary cap space and have the flexibility to add a significant piece to their roster to help their playoff push.
