The Boston Bruins have been generating interest in a number of their players, including the likes of defenceman Brandon Carlo and forwards Justin Brazeau, Charlie Coyle and Morgan Geekie, among others.

While GM Don Sweeney navigates those discussions, he is also believed to be entertaining inquiries on captain Brad Marchand, who is in the final year of his contract.

According to multiple separate sources, the Bruins are willing to listen to trade calls about Marchand and have set a significantly high price that includes a first-round pick and a young NHL roster player in a package.

The Bruins and Marchand’s camp have continued contract discussions throughout the season and have outlined a number of options, including a three-year extension. The two sides are going to continue contract negotiations, even as Sweeney listens to trade offers.

Marchand, 36, is in the final year of an eight-year, $49 million contract and comes with a $6.125 million salary cap hit. He also owns an eight-team no-trade list as part of his deal.

The Bruins have maintained their desire to get Marchand inked to a new deal and having trade calls may not change the final goal of getting him signed.

In 61 games with the Bruins so far this season, Marchand has registered 21 goals and 26 assists for 47 points.
