CECI, FOEGELE COULD BE CASUALITIES OF THE CAP
Cody Ceci, defenceman
As the Edmonton Oilers look to add to their roster leading up to Friday’s 3pm ET trade deadline, any major acquisition will likely result in at least one current roster player being moved out.
The Oilers are looking to add at both ends of the rink, as reports suggest they want to add at least one forward and one defenceman in the coming days.
With very limited salary cap space, Oilers GM Ken Holland will almost certainly be forced to ship out a player and the likes of forward Warren Foegele and defencemen Cody Ceci and Brett Kulak are the likely candidates.
Foegele is in the final year of his contract, Ceci has one more year left on his deal, and Kulak has two more seasons left on his. None of the three have any no-trade protection as part of their contracts.
Holland is not exclusively exploring the rental market, as the Oilers are willing to trade for players with term left on their contracts after this season.
The Oilers have been linked to such players as St. Louis Blues winger Pavel Bushnevich, Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Sean Walker and centre Scott Laughton, Pittsburgh Penguins sniper Jake Guentzel, Anaheim Ducks forward Adam Henrique, and Montreal Canadiens blueliner David Savard, among others.
With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Oilers are expected to make multiple moves this week.
