SENATORS EXPLORING GOALTENDING MARKET
Senators GM Steve Staios
The Ottawa Senators are looking to make a number of moves this off-season and in addition to looking for a right-shot defenceman and a top-six forward, the club is also looking to bolster its goaltending position.
As previously reported, the Senators expressed interest in Boston Bruins netminder Linus Ullmark during the season and have circled back this off-season.
Senators GM Steve Staios is exploring his options and has reportedly shown interest in Calgary Flames netminder Jacob Markstrom, while several other teams are taking calls on their goalies, as well.
In addition to Ullmark and Markstrom, Nashville Predators starter Juuse Saros, Minnesota Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson, and Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins are among the goalies being discussed.
However, one challenge facing Ottawa is trying to move out current No.1 goalie Joonas Korpisalo.
Korpisalo, 30, has four more years left on his contract, comes with a $4 million cap hit, and owns a 10-team no-trade list.
With around $12.5 million in salary cap space for next season, the Senators plan on being active this summer addressing the voids on their roster.
Staios is also generating interest, once again, in defenceman Jakob Chychrun, who is entering the final year of his contract.
The Flames, Predators, Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals are among the teams that expressed interest in Chychrun in the past and could circle back this off-season.
