The Winnipeg Jets are engaged in trade talks involving top prospect and 2022 14th overall pick Rutger McGroarty.

During the latest “32 Thoughts” podcast, Elliotte Friedman first reported that McGroarty is being discussed in trade talks and The Athletic’s Murat Ates added fuel to the fire when he reported on Saturday that a trade is expected in the coming days leading up to next Friday’s NHL Draft in Las Vegas.

McGroarty is looking to make the jump to the NHL next season and it appears as if the Jets are not as eager, which has led to GM Kevin Cheveldayoff exploring trade options.

It is unclear which teams are involved in trade discussions with the Jets for McGroarty, who is eligible to sign his entry-level contract.

The Jets are looking to add offence to their roster and upgrade their blueline, and moving McGroarty in a package could result in filling one of those voids.

In 36 games with the University of Michigan this past season, McGroarty registered 16 goals and 36 assists for 52 points.
