The Vancouver Canucks are believed to be shopping forward Ilya Mikheyev, who has two years remaining on his contract and comes with a $4.75 million salary cap hit.
Mikheyev, 29, owns a 12-team no-trade list as part of his contract and has some say in where he ends up, if moved.
The news was first reported by Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, citing the Canucks are trying to move Mikheyev for cap flexibility to sign pending free agents.
It is unclear, at this point, which teams the Canucks are engaged in trade discussions with.
The Canucks currently have just over $24 million in salary cap space, with nine pending unrestricted free agents and two restricted free agents in Filip Hronek and Arthur Silovs. Forwards Elias Lindholm, Sam Lafferty, Dakota Joshua and Teddy Blueger, defencemen Ian Cole, Tyler Myers, Nikita Zadorov and Mark Friedman, and goaltender Casey DeSmith are eligible to become UFAs July 1.
As TFP previous reported, contract talks between the Canucks and Myers are ongoing, while it appears Lafferty will be testing the free agent market. Offers have also reportedly been pitched to the likes of Zadorov and Lindholm, but have not yet gained traction.
