LEAFS GM CONFIRMS SEARCH FOR CENTRE
Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving
The Toronto Maple Leafs want to add up the middle, as TFP and other outlets have reported this season, and GM Brad Treliving had admitted to being in pursuit of a centre.
On Monday’s edition of “The Latest” on TFP, David Pagnotta spoke about Toronto’s search for a pivot for the club’s second or third line, with forward Nick Robertson being one of the pieces the Leafs could move out.
Robertson is among the players currently ranked on the TFP Trade Watch List.
Speaking to TSN yesterday, Treliving also revealed that half the league is also on the hunt for a centre.
“Is that an area that we’d like to continue to look at? Sure,” he confirmed. “We, probably along with about 15 or 18 other teams, are looking at centre depth, so it seems to be a position du jour.”
Treliving acknowledged that the team is not likely to pursue a top-six centre and likes having Auston Matthews and John Tavares in those slots, which could result in the team being more focused on upgrading their third line.
“Reliable on both sides of the puck,” Treliving said, referring to the type of centre he would want to add. “Certainly somebody that can add offence.”
The Maple Leafs have just over $1.35 million in current cap space, as of today, according to PuckPedia.
