ISLANDERS FIRE LAMBERT, NAME ROY COACH

The New York Islanders have fired bench boss Lane Lambert, and have named Patrick Roy the club’s new Head Coach.

Last season, Roy served as the Head Coach of the Quebec Remparts and won the Memorial Cup Championship and the QMJHL Championship.

The 58-year-old had two stints as Head Coach of the Remparts, 2005-06 through 2012-13 and 2018-19 through 2022-23. He also won the Memorial Cup in his first season as Head Coach of Quebec and accumulated a record of 524-255-66.

In the NHL, Roy spent three seasons as Head Coach of the Colorado Avalanche from 2013-14 through 2015-16, winning the Jack Adams Award as Coach of the Year in his first season. He compiled a record of 130-92-24 with the Avs.

Lambert was named Head Coach of the Islanders on May 16, 2022. He spent the previous four seasons as the club’s Associate Coach from 2018-22.
