The Vancouver Canucks have made it known to teams that they have made defenceman Carson Soucy available for trade, even though he owns a full no-trade clause this season.
Soucy, 30, has one more year left on his contract after this season and comes with a $3.25 million salary cap hit. His full NTC turns into a 12-team no-trade list starting July 1.
With Vancouver’s recent acquisition of Marcus Pettersson and the emergence of defenceman Elias Pettersson, the Canucks find themselves with too many options on the blueline and moving out Soucy would give the team some cap flexibility as they remain in the hunt for a top-six scoring forward.
On Tuesday, TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported that Soucy prefers to stay in Vancouver, but he is willing to explore trade options and accept a move if that ends up being the best path for all parties.
While Soucy is available for trade, sense is he wants to try and make it work still with Van.

Still, his camp and Canucks have talked about working together on a potential trade if that’s the end result before March 7 https://t.co/GjZvdKmvud
It is unclear what the Canucks are looking for in exchange for Soucy, or if they simply want to rid themselves of a contract and create cap space for an addition up front.
The Ottawa Senators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers and Winnipeg Jets are among the teams in the market for depth on their bluelines.
In 52 games with the Canucks so far this season, Soucy has registered two goals, six assists and 42 penalty minutes.
