TEAMS CALLING COLUMBUS ABOUT JENNER
Boone Jenner, forward
The Columbus Blue Jackets sit last in the Eastern Conference and are likely to remain near the bottom of the league standings for the rest of the season, prompting teams to inquire about some of their players.
According to multiple reports, the Blue Jackets have generated calls from teams inquiring about captain Boone Jenner, who has two more years left on his contract after this season.
Jenner, named an All Star this season, owns an eight-team no-trade list and comes with a very attractive $3.75 million salary cap hit.
While Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen is not actively trying to trade Jenner, he is willing to listen to what teams have to say and offer, and if a deal comes across his desk that is too good to pass up, he is expected to consider it.
During Tuesday’s Trade Deadline segment on TFP, David Pagnotta and Dennis Bernstein discussed Jenner’s future with the Blue Jackets, noting teams like the Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche are among the teams with interest in the 30-year-old.
Any move involving Jenner is likely to centre around a talent-for-talent swap as opposed to the main pieces returning to Columbus being future assets, such as draft picks and prospects, according to a team source.
In 36 games with the Blue Jackets so far this season, Jenner has registered 15 goals and five assists for 20 points.
