LIGHTNING LOOKING FOR MOBILE DEFENCEMAN
Lightning GM Julien BriseBois
The Tampa Bay Lightning are among the teams looking to upgrade their blueline ahead of the March 8 trade deadline and GM Julien BriseBois appears to be exploring the market for a speedy defenceman.
While is it unclear what caliber defenceman the Bolts are trying to go after, sources have told TFP they are scouring the League for a mobile blueliner with speed who can play a strong two-way game.
The Lightning do not have a lot of salary cap space to play with, which may affect the type of defenceman they add if they can acquire one, but BriseBois would like to add to his blueline before the deadline.
Mikhail Sergachev, the club’s most mobile defenceman, remains on LTIR with a lower-body injury. He has not played since Dec. 19, but is nearing a return after practicing with the club this week and could be back in the lineup as early as tonight in New York.
Tampa, winner of three straight, currently sits in the third position in the Atlantic Division, one point ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs, though the Leafs have two games in hand.
