HABS CONTINUE TO DRAW INTEREST IN SAVARD
David Savard, defenceman
The Montreal Canadiens remain engaged in trade discussions with multiple teams involving veteran defenceman David Savard.
Savard, 33, has one more year left on his contract after this season and comes with a $3.5 million salary cap hit. He does not own any no trade protection.
The Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, and Toronto Maple Leafs are among the teams believed to have interest in Savard.
It is unclear what Canadiens GM Kent Hughes is looking for in exchange for Savard. The Habs are also fielding calls and making calls of their own on several other players, such as forward Joel Armia, goaltender Jake Allen and left wing Tanner Pearson.
Armia and Allen each have one more year left on their contracts, like Savard, while Pearson is in the final year of his deal and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
In 37 games with the Habs so far this season, Savard has registered four goals and nine assists for 13 points.
