The Carolina Hurricanes are hoping to strengthen their goaltending position this season and GM Eric Tulsky is in the market for a new netminder to add to his roster.

With Freddie Andersen out an extended period of time and Pyotr Kochetkov carrying the load this season, the Canes are trying to find a new body in net.

During Thursday’s “Insider Trading” segment on TSN, Pierre LeBrun reported the Hurricanes are indeed exploring their options, suggesting the likes of Calgary’s Dan Vladar, Ottawa’s Anton Forsberg, Anaheim’s John Gibson and Utah’s Karel Vejmelka.

However, outside of Gibson, “none of those teams are ready to be sellers, they’re trying to make the playoffs,” LeBrun said.

“None of those goalies, so far, have really been on the market, so Carolina is trying to be patient, but they’re ready to trade for one now,” LeBrun added.

LeBrun also noted the Hurricanes have talked to the Ducks about Gibson before, “but the price is going to have to come down to trade for a goalie that has a couple more years left on his deal.”

The Ducks are open to trading Gibson, who would welcome a change of scenery to a Stanley Cup contender, and could retain a portion of his contract to help facilitate a trade, but the asking price remains high.

Gibson, who owns a 10-team no-trade clause as part of his contract, has two more seasons remaining on his deal after this season and comes with a $6.4 million cap hit.

Vladar, Vejmelka and Forsberg are all playing on expiring contracts.
