BROBERG LOOKING TO BE TRADED

Philip Broberg, defenceman

The Edmonton Oilers have been looking to rejig parts of their roster, presumably in their bottom-six and defensive corps, and while GM Ken Holland has been exploring his options, he may have another deal to work on in the near future.

Oilers defenceman Philip Broberg is looking for a change of scenery and appears to have escalated his desire to play elsewhere, which would explain why his name has been mentioned in recent trade speculation.

The Oilers have been linked to such teams as the Columbus Blue Jackets, Montreal Canadiens and San Jose Sharks lately, among other teams.

According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Broberg’s camp has been given permission to speak with other teams to help escalate the trade process and there appears to be interest from several teams.

The Oilers preference is to complete a hockey trade and either swap Broberg or package him in a deal for another player.

One player the Oilers appear to have some level of interest in is Sharks blueliner Mario Ferraro, however such a move would require similar salary going back to San Jose as part of a deal. Ferraro has two more years left on his contract and comes with a $3.25 million cap hit.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are also believed to have interest in Ferraro.
