Capitals looking for big defenseman

Even with Tom Poti scheduled to return to the Capitals lineup today, Washington is still believed to be in the market for a physical defenseman.

The Capitals' penalty-killing unit ranks 23rd in the NHL, and the team has been looking to move center Michael Nylander to free up some salary.

The Washington Post notes the Capitals' struggles on the penalty kill, with assistant coach Dean Evason indicating that Poti's return should help.

"Obviously Tom is a guy who has killed in this league and is a veteran guy that we've relied a lot on," Evason told the paper. "Anytime a penalty kill is good, you to have a steady, rock of a guy back there."

The Nashville Predators are reportedly shopping Dan Hamhuis, while the Ottawa Senators might be looking to trade Jason Smith.
