Capitals want Ovechkin locked up

  The Washington Capitals would like to get their superstar forward Alex Ovechkin signed to a long-term contract extension.

However, according to the Ottawa Sun, they're having trouble negotiation with the impending restricted free agent.

Ovechkin fired his agent, Don Meehan, over a year ago, and has yet to replace him. The Sun, however, claims he has hired a lawyer to be his advisor.

The Capitals would like to get Ovechkin inked to a five-year contract, and TFP has learned they have already approached him with a figure around $8 million per season.

   
The Sun reports the Capitals are willing to offer a similar deal around the same $8.7 million per season deal the Pittsburgh Penguins gave Sidney Crosby, however Ovechkin's camp is looking for a bigger deal, in the $9-to-10 million range.
