Penguins won't shake up team

TheFourthPeriod.com

The Pittsburgh Penguins have struggled to start the season, going 7-8-1, prompting speculation that changes are on the way.

While TFP has learned that Penguins GM Ray Shero is doing regularly on the phone weighing his options, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports he isn't about to press any panic buttons.

According to the paper, Shero is not going to fire coach Michel Therrien, he won't tear apart the nucleus of his club and deal away its young talent, nor will he replace Marc-Andre Fleury as the team's No. 1 goalie.

"You have to have some patience if you have some sort of plan," Shero told the Post-Gazette.

Various reports have linked the likes of Colby Armstrong, Ryan Malone and even Jordan Staal to trade rumors, and while the first two names are possible candidates, the Penguins aren't expected to move Staal anytime soon.

The Penguins are looking around for some additional fire-power in the form of another top-six forward, preferably with a right-handed shot, and a physical veteran defenseman.

"If there's an opportunity [to make a trade] that fits, short and long term for us, we'll try to do that if it makes sense," Shero said.

Shero has reiterated his position on Fleury and has no intentions of trading him or replacing him, short-term or long-term.

"I believe in him as a goalie and as a kid," he said. "I think he has talent. He's young."
