Canucks GM Mike Gillis attended last night's Senators-Rangers game in Madison Square Garden, prompting speculation that he was discussing a deal with Sens GM Bryan Murray.
According to the Ottawa Sun, Gillis and assistant Lawrence Gilman were among the eight teams represented at last night's game.
The Senators are looking for a puck-moving defenseman and are very interested in Vancouver's Mattias Ohlund. Reports suggest Murray is willing to part with winger Antoine Vermette.
The Sun claims contract talks between the Canucks and Ohlund have been fruitless and the veteran defenseman might be willing to waive his no-trade clause.
From the Editor:
We've been hearing this for some time now, and somewhere where there's smoke, there's fire. The Canucks have reportedly asked for Vermette to be included in a deal for Ohlund and it now looks like Ottawa is willing to comply. We'll be keeping an eye on this, but for the time being nothing appears imminent. So far, just talks. -- David Pagnotta
