Predators, Ellis talking contract

TheFourthPeriod.com

The Predators have started contract negotiations with the agent for goaltender Dan Ellis, according to the Nashville Tennessean.

Ellis' agent, Mike Liut, acknowledged the two sides have had some talks, but no offer has been made.

"It's worked out well for Dan in Nashville, and he has an interest in continuing there. Why wouldn't he?" Liut told the newspaper. "But I think (Predators GM) David (Poile) understands that we have some sensitivity issues. The way things stand right now, they could have three goaltenders on NHL contracts, and they have to work through that."

Ellis can become an unrestricted free agent if he remains unsigned come July 1.

Meanwhile, the Tennessean also reports Poile and defenseman Shea Weber's agent Don Meehan are expected to begin negotiations in the coming days.
