Avs begin search for new coach

TheFourthPeriod.com

With Joel Quenneville and the Avalanche parting ways last week, Colorado GM Francois Giguere has started his search for a new head coach, reports the Denver Post.

Patrick Roy and Pat Burns are believed to be two candidates for the position, however Giguere would not discuss the situation.

"I'm just starting the process," Giguere told the Post. "I don't feel any pressing need to do anything. It's not like we need to get this done in the next few weeks. I'm going to be attacking (this) along with some other things in the upcoming weeks."

While Roy has expressed his interest in the position, the paper suggests the Avs could wait until after the NHL Entry Draft to make their decision.

Former 18-year NHL veteran Kevin Dineen could also be in line for the job, although the Post suggests he's a dark horse.

Dineen is currently the bench boss of the AHL's Portland Pirates.
