The Calgary Flames have signed unrestricted free agent center Steve Begin to a one-year, two-way contract worth $525,000.

Begin, 34, last played in the NHL in 2010-11 with the Nashville Predators and took last season off.

The Flames announced the signing on their Twitter page with a picture of head coach Bob Hartley presenting Begin with a Flames jersey.

In 488 career NHL regular-season games with the Flames, Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins and Predators, the native of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, has accumulated 52 goals and 48 assists for 100 points, and 539 penalty minutes.

Begin was originally drafted by the Flames in the second-round (40th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
