Despite denial, Phaneuf on trade block?
TheFourthPeriod.com

According to the New York Post, the Calgary Flames are indeed actively looking to trade superstar defenseman Dion Phaneuf.

Flames GM Darryl Sutter recently denied a report claiming he was trying to move Phaneuf.

However, an unnamed NHL GM told the Post yesterday the Flames are "desperate" to trade the 24-year-old.

Sutter and pro scout Ron Sutter scouted Thursday's Rangers game against Philadelphia, prompting speculation the Rangers are among the teams interested in Phaneuf.

The Rangers, however, do not have enough cap space to acquire Phaneuf's $6.5 million salary without having to trade either Wade Redden or Michal Rozsival and it's uncertain how interested the Flames are in either player.
