Ducks won't trade Niedermayer

The Anaheim Ducks have received inquiries about Scott Niedermayer, but GM Bob Murray has made it clear he won't trade his star defenseman, reports the Orange County Register.

A number of teams, including the New Jersey Devils, have asked about Niedermayer, whom the Ducks plan on holding on to.

"I never bring up that name," Murray told the paper. "This is a broken record also. Scott Niedermayer is going nowhere. That's the last time I'll answer that question."

Murray, who won't trade one of the team's first-round picks, is looking to bolster his defense, the Register claims, but the asking price appears to be too high.

"We've known everything that's happened so far," Murray said. "We know the price. Every year is different. Some things are going to happen. There's going to be more things happen."

The Ducks have contacted the Toronto Maple Leafs about veteran defenseman Tomas Kaberle, who has a no-trade clause, but that avenue appears closed.

"I just talked to (Leafs GM Brian Burke) to see how he was doing," Murray said. "Has he waived his no-trade? He said not as of yet. So there's nothing there."
