SAVARD STILL IN PLAY FOR MONTREAL

David Savard, defenceman

Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes continues to take calls on veteran defenceman David Savard, who has one more year left on his contract after this season.

Savard, who ranks on the TFP Trade Watch List, comes with a $3.5 million salary cap hit and does not own any no-trade protection.

Hughes has been engaged in trade conversations with a number of teams regarding Savard, with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs believed to be three teams interested in the blueliner.

The Habs have one more salary retention slot available if they choose to use it on Savard or if they retain salary on another contract.

Montreal is also having trade talks involving goalie Jake Allen and forward Tanner Pearson, among others.

Pearson is set to become an unrestricted free agent this July and could be moved out to a contender looking to add depth to their bottom-six forward corps.
