OILERS LOOKING TO ADD AT BOTH ENDS

Oilers GM Ken Holland

The Edmonton Oilers remain engaged in trade discussions with multiple teams as GM Ken Holland tries to upgrade his club at both ends of the ice.

Holland has been exploring the defensive market and as TFP’s Anthony Di Marco reported Friday morning, the Oilers are one of the teams still eyeing defencemen Sean Walker and Nick Seeler of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Walker and Seeler are both in the last year of their respective contracts. The Oilers are one of five-to-six teams reportedly interested in both players, with the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning among the other teams.

The Oilers also expressed interest in Chris Tanev before the Calgary Flames traded him to the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.

In addition to upgrading the blueline, Holland is also hoping to add up front and has been linked to St. Louis Blues winger Pavel Buchnevich, who has another year left on his contract, according to TFP’s David Pagnotta.

The Vegas Golden Knights, Los Angeles Kings and Carolina Hurricanes are also believed to have expressed interest in Buchnevich.

Any significant move the Oilers make will almost certainly require a roster player to be moved out in order to accommodate the salary cap. Defencemen Brett Kulak and Cody Ceci and forward Warren Foegele are all considered candidates to move if the Oilers ship someone out.

The Oilers, who are willing to trade their 2024 first-round draft pick in a deal, have also shown interest in Anaheim Ducks forwards Adam Henrique and Frank Vatrano, Seattle Kraken winger Jordan Eberle, and San Jose forward Anthony Duclair.
