KRAKEN CLOSE TO TRADING WENNBERG

The Seattle Kraken are keeping centre Alex Wennberg out of tonight’s matchup against the Calgary Flames for trade related reasons.

Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol confirmed the news with reporters on Monday after their morning skate.

Wennberg, who ranks No.19 on the TFP Trade Watch List, has generated interest from multiple clubs, including the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche.

He is in the final year of a three-year, $13.5 million contract and owns a 10-team no-trade list as part of his contract.

The Kraken explored the possibility of signing Wennberg to an extension, like they are trying to do with forward Jordan Eberle, but it clearly seems as if a trade is likely. It is unclear, however, what the Kraken have been looking for in exchange for Wennberg.

In 60 games with the Kraken this season, the 29-year-old registered nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points.
