ISLANDERS LOOKING TO ADD TO ROSTER

Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello

Sitting two points back of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, the New York Islanders have made up ground lately, winning five in-a-row, and that has led to further speculation that GM Lou Lamoriello is looking to add to his roster ahead of today’s 3pm ET trade deadline.

During his Friday morning appearance on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio, TFP’s David Pagnotta reported the Islanders are exploring the defensive market and have expressed interest in Ottawa Senators blueliner Jakob Chychrun, however a deal may be more likely to occur in the summer.

It is unclear which other defencemen the Islanders could be looking to add, and Lamoriello is also interested in acquiring a forward to provide more scoring punch but the belief is he prefers to land a player with term.

Pagnotta also reported this week that winger Oliver Wahlstrom would welcome a change of scenery and is being dangled as a piece the Islanders are willing to trade.

Using LTIR salary cap overage space, the Islanders currently have just over $2.487 million in cap space, as per CapFriendly.
