With the 2013 NHL regular-season about to begin, New York Rangers
defenseman Marc Staal took a few minutes with Patrick Kearns to
answer our the TFP 10 QUESTIONS.
Who is
your dream defensive partner who is no longer playing in the
league?
I'll say,
Bobby Orr.
What is
the best prank you have ever seen pulled on yourself or a
teammate?
In junior,
a lot of guys would put clear tape on the blades on the bottom of
your skates. So you'd jump on the ice and fall right on your face.
What is
your favorite road city to play in?
I like
Montreal, although we haven't had a great amount of success there
lately. I really like the building.
What is
your weirdest pre-game ritual?
I've had the same routine since I was 16. Probably the weirdest
thing is I have to put the right side of my gear on first. Right
skate, right elbow pad... If I don't I get all messed up.
What is a
personal goal you have set for yourself this year?
Obviously,
in a 48-game schedule it's tough to have a specific goal because
you can't really compare it to anything, so I think for me it's
just consistency every game.
If somebody gives you a discount at a store for being a member of
the New York Rangers, do you immediately offer to pay full price
or just quietly thank them?
If it does
happen, I always ask, "Are you sure?" But you know if they are
offering I'll take it, if they are telling me not to (pay full
price).
If you see
a fight break out on the street, would you: call for help, film it
with your phone, try to break it up, or walk away?
I think it
would depend on the circumstances... I definitely wouldn't film
it! I think you should try to get help for the person getting
beaten up.
What's the
best goal-celebration you have ever seen?
I gotta go
with Bobby Orr sailing through the air with his arms in the air.
What
regular-season trophy would you most like to win?
The Norris Trophy.
Who is the
strongest guy on the New York Rangers; the one guy you really
wouldn't want to mess with?
