WALKER, SEELER GOING WITH THE FLOW WITH DEADLINE IN SIGHT

The acquisition of Jamie Drysdale by the Philadelphia Flyers has given the team extra quality depth on a roster now deep at the defence position.

Blueliners Sean Walker and Nick Seeler are playing on expiring contracts and their names have been brought up in trade speculation for the past two months. The addition of Drysdale has furthered the rumour mill.

As TFP’s Anthony Di Marco reported, it may be more likely that Walker is moved between now and the March 8 trade deadline due to trading for Drysdale.

Walker, 29, comes with a $2.65 million salary cap hit, while the 30-year-old Seeler is playing on a league-minimum cap hit of $775,000.

“It is what it is,” Walker told The Athletic. “Just trying not to think about it, just worrying about my game to help the team win games, and we’ll go from there. Whatever happens, happens.”

Seeler echoed Walker’s sentiments, indicating that the ultimate decision is out of his hands. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Monday the Flyers could look to sign Seeler to an extension, but The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz, in speaking to his sources, claimed that might not be the case. Either way, Seeler is trying to stay focused on his game.

“At the end of the day you can’t control a lot of things in this business, but I do know that I absolutely love it here and I want to be a Flyer,” Seeler told The Athletic. “Hopefully I can continue to be with this group and honestly it’s not hard to block out that (trade talk) stuff. I’m just happy to be a part of such a good group and organization, and I’d love to stay here and play here for a long time.”

Walker, who is now ranked on the TFP Trade Watch List, also emphasized his preference to stay in Philadelphia.

“I love the city, love the team, love the organization and what they’re trying to build here,” he said. “We’ve shocked a lot of people and played really well with the group we have. If I end up staying here that would be something I’d be really happy about.”
