Where
They Might End Up
Status
-
Scott Gomez, C
2011-12 Cap Hit: $7.357 million | Age: 33
After being bought out by the Canadiens, Scott Gomez
has attracted plenty of interest from around the
league, and it shouldn't come as a surprise.
There are a number of teams looking for depth on their
third line, and Gomez can bring that. He's motivated
to prove he can be a top-six forward again.
Free Agent
-
Wade Redden, D
2011-12 Cap Hit: $6.5 million | Age: 35
Like Gomez, Redden was bought out by the Rangers, and
like Gomez, he's motivated to prove he can be a strong
and reliable NHL defenseman.
There are teams from both conferences interested in
signing Redden, who can deepen a team's defensive
corps.
Sykora proved his worth last season with the Devils and
should attract interest on the open market.
There's a chance he re-signs with the Devils, but
another Cup contender could scoop him away for their
own run.
UPDATE: Sykora is currently mulling over two
offers and is expected to make a decision in the near
future.
Free Agent
2
Jason Arnott, C
2011-12 Cap Hit:
$2.875 million | Age: 38
Arnott received minimal interest during the summer,
but with a shortened season, he could prove to be a
valuable asset for a Stanley Cup contender in need of
some veteran presence.
He likely won't command a significant salary, but
could ink a solid deal filled with bonuses.
Free Agent
3
Eric Fehr, RW
2011-12 Cap Hit: $2.2 million | Age: 27
Fehr has a very bumpy ride in Winnipeg last season and
last battled injuries for parts of the last three
seasons. But he appears to be healthy once again.
He put up 23 points in 20 games for HPK of Finland's
SM-Liiga this season and could be a nice addition for
a team looking to bolster its third line.
A solid two-way asset, Moore was highly coveted at the
trade deadline and should attract plenty of interest
in a shortened-season.
Moore was looking for a deal in the three-year range,
but it's possible he takes this season off for
personal and family reasons.
Free Agent
5
Chris Campoli,
D
2011-12 Cap Hit: $1.75 million | Age:
28
For teams looking for some extra offense from the
blueline, Campoli's the only free agent remaining that
would fit their needs.
He'll likely receive a pro-rated deal worth around $1
million.
Free Agent
6
Kent Huskins, D
2011-12 Cap Hit: $1 million | Age: 33
Huskins can add quality depth to a team's blueline. He
has the best +/- among all remaining UFA defenseman
with a +9.
A team in need of some insurance on the backend could
scoop Huskins fairly quickly.
Free Agent
7
Kurtis Foster, D
2011-12 Cap Hit: $1.8 million | Age:
31
Speaking of depth, Foster can add quality depth to any
team's defensive corps. He bounced around the NHL last
season, getting dealt twice and playing on three
different teams, but he's a solid asset to have.
He played for Tappara of Finland's SM-Liiga this year
and is the only UFA defenseman in game-ready shape.
