WALKER TRADE TALK ESCALATING FOR PHILLY?

Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere continues to work the phonelines with 10 days to go until the NHL trade deadline.

The Flyers have two key pieces on the blueline being discussed around the League and the belief is that at least one, if not both, could be moved in the coming days even with Philadelphia sitting third in the Metropolitan Division.

Defenceman Sean Walker and Nick Seeler are in the final year of their contracts and are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents July 1. While the Flyers have recently engaged in contract negotiations with Seeler’s camp, formal discussions have still not started with Walker’s side.

As TFP’s David Pagnotta reported on Tuesday, some talk around the NHL suggests the Flyers may be more inclined to trade Walker by the March 8th deadline versus keeping him or trying to extend him. TFP’s Anthony Di Marco later reported one Western Conference GM believes Walker will be on the move.

Pagnotta also reported Seeler’s camp is looking for a significant contract worth more than $3 million per season on a multi-year contract, whereas the Flyers are more comfortable in the $2 million to $3 million range.

Some teams are believed to have interest in both Walker and Seeler as a pair, with the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers linked to both. The Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning have also shown varying degrees of interest this season.

A move is not currently considered imminent, but unless contract talks pick up steam, the Flyers could try to move one or both of Walker and Seeler in advance of deadline day.
